How to play Crazy Eights
Crazy Eights is the original shedding game - the granddaddy of Uno - and it takes about thirty seconds to learn: match the top card by suit or rank, or play a wild 8 and call the suit yourself. First player with an empty hand wins.

- Matching - on a 9♥ you may play any heart or any 9.
- Sets go down together - two or more cards of the same rank can be played at once; only the first must match the pile. If the flipped starter is an 8, your first play can be anything.
- Eights are wild - play one on anything and declare the next suit.
- Stuck? - only then may you draw, up to three cards from the stock. Still nothing after three? You pass. The stock is never reshuffled.
- Four seats - you against Sóley, Bjarki and Elín, so the active suit changes fast.
Strategy tips that empty your hand first
- Hoard your 8s. An 8 played early is a wasted skeleton key. Save them for when you have no match - or for the final card call.
- Shed high cards first. When you hold two playable cards, dump the one you are least likely to match again.
- Steer into your long suit. Every card you play sets the suit for the table. Keep the game in the suit you hold most of.
- Count the eights. Four exist. If three are gone and you hold the fourth, the endgame belongs to you.
- Watch short hands. When an opponent is down to one or two cards, change the suit - ideally to one they just drew on.

What are the rules of Crazy Eights?
Each player gets five cards and one card is flipped to start the discard pile. On your turn, play a card matching the top card's suit or rank - or several cards of the same rank together, as long as the first one matches. Eights are wild: play one any time and name the suit that must follow. Only when you have no playable card may you draw, up to three cards; if you still can't play, you pass. First player to empty their hand wins.
Can you play more than one card at a time in Crazy Eights?
Yes - two or more cards of the same rank go down together, and only the first of them has to match the pile. Play the 7 of hearts on a heart and the 7s of spades and clubs can ride along in the same turn. Click a matching card to raise it, add its twins, then play the whole set.
Is Crazy Eights the same as Uno?
Uno is essentially Crazy Eights with a custom deck - the match-suit-or-rank core is identical, and the wild 8 became Uno's Wild card. If you know Uno, you already know Crazy Eights; all you need is a standard 52-card deck.
When should I play my 8s?
Late, not early. An 8 always plays, so it is insurance against being stuck drawing cards. The classic moment: when you are down to two cards, play the 8 and call the suit of your final card.
What happens when the stock runs out?
The stock is never reshuffled. Once it runs dry, a player with nothing to play simply passes. If a full round goes by with nobody able to play or draw, the game is blocked and the player with the fewest cards wins.
How many players can play Crazy Eights?
Two to seven with one deck. This version seats you against three computer opponents, which keeps the pace quick and the suits changing constantly.
